A lot has been written in the papers not long ago about the bingo industry being hit as a consequence of the cigarette ban in Britain. Things have become so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested big tax cuts to help keep the industry from going bankrupt. But does the internet adaptation of this quintessential game offer a lifeline, or will it never compare to its land based peer?

Bingo has been an established game generally enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. For all that the game of late had experienced a recent increase in popularity with younger people deciding to visit the bingo parlours instead of the discos on a weekend. This is all about to be destroyed with the legislating of the smoking ban around Britain.

No more will enthusiasts be able to puff on cigarettes while dabbing numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 every public place will not be permitted to allow smoking in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlours, one of the most favored places where folks like to smoke.

The results of the cigarette ban can already be felt in Scotland where smoking is already barred in the bingo parlors. Players have dropped and the industry is absolutely fighting for its life. But where did the players go? Obviously they have not abandoned this familiar game?

The answer is on the net. People are now realizing that they can enjoy bingo from their computer while enjoying a cocktail and cig and still have a chance at big jackpots. This is a recent phenomenon and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the anti smoking law.

Of course betting on on the internet is unlikely to replace the communal part of going down to the bingo hall, but for a group of players the governing edicts have left a good many bingo players with little choice.
