Much has been reported in the papers just a while ago regarding the bingo industry being hurt because of the cigarette ban in the United Kingdom. Conditions have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for huge tax breaks to help keep the industry afloat. However can the net version of this traditional game offer a reprieve, or will it in no way compare to its real life equivalent?

Bingo has been an established game generally played by the "blue haired" generation. However the game of late had undergone a recent increase in popularity with younger members of society deciding to visit the bingo parlours instead of the bars on a Saturday night. This is all about to be reversed with the enforcement of the anti cigarette law around England and Wales.

No more will enthusiasts be permitted to smoke whilst dabbing numbers. From the summer of 2007 every public place will not be permitted to allow smoking in their locations and this includes Bingo parlours, one of the most favorite places where players enjoy smoking.

The results of the cigarette ban can already be seen in Scotland where cigarettes are already forbidden in the bingo halls. Profits have plunged and the business is beyond a doubt struggling for its life. But where have all the players gone? Surely they haven’t given up on this age old game?

The answer is on the internet. Gamblers are now realizing that they can enjoy bingo using their computer whilst enjoying a beer and smoke and still have a chance at monstrous prizes. This is a recent development and has happened bordering on perfect with the ban on smoking.

Of course gambling on on the internet can never replace the communal aspect of going over to the bingo parlor, but for a group of people the rules have left a number of bingo enthusiasts with no choice.
