An abundance has been talked in the press recently about the bingo industry being hurt as a consequence of the cigarette ban in the United Kingdom. Things have grown so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for big aid to help keep the industry from going bankrupt. However can the internet adaptation of this classic game present a lifeline, or will it in no way compare to its land based equivalent?

Bingo has been an familiar game historically played by the "blue rinse" generation. However the game lately had witnessed a recent increase in acceptance with younger people deciding to visit the bingo parlors instead of the bars on a Friday night. All this is about to be reversed with the enacting of the smoking ban all over England and Wales.

No longer will gamblers be allowed to puff on cigarettes at the same time marking off their numbers. Beginning in the summer of ‘07 all public locations will not be allowed to permit cigarettes in their locations and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most popular areas where people like to smoke.

The results of the smoking ban can already be seen in Scotland where smoking is already prohibited in the bingo parlors. Numbers have plummeted and the industry is literally struggling for its life. But where have the players gone? Obviously they haven’t given up on this enduring game?

The answer is on the net. Players are now realizing that they can play bingo in front of their computer at the same time enjoying a beer and smoke and still enjoy huge jackpots. This is a recent development and has happened bordering on perfect with the ban on cigarettes.

Of course gambling on on the internet is unlikely to replace the social part of going over to the bingo hall, but for a group of people the rules have left a lot of bingo enthusiasts with no alternative.
