An abundance has been talked in the press not long ago regarding the bingo industry being hurt as a result of the anti smoking law in the UK. Things have grown so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for big aid to help keep the industry from going bankrupt. But does the net variation of this traditional game provide a salvation, or will it never compare to its land based opposite?

Bingo is an ancient game generally enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. For all that the game lately had seen a recent comeback in acceptance with younger members of society deciding to visit the bingo parlours rather than the bars on a Friday night. All this is about to be reversed with the legislating of the anti smoking law around Britain.

Players will no longer be permitted to puff on cigarettes at the same time marking numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 all public places will not be permitted to allow smoking in their locations and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most favored places where many people like to smoke.

The results of the anti smoking law can already be observed in Scotland where smoking is already barred in the bingo halls. Numbers have plunged and the industry is literally struggling for its life. But where have the players gone? Obviously they have not cast aside this familiar game?

The answer is on the internet. People realize that they can wager on bingo in front of their computer while enjoying a beer and cigarette and in the end, enjoy big prizes. This is a recent development and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the ban on cigarettes.

Of course wagering on on the internet could never replace the social portion of heading down to the bingo parlour, but for a group of players the rules have left a number of bingo players with no alternative.
