Bingo and Oklahoma: Two Peas in a Pod

by Ayden on May.19, 2022, under Bingo

Oklahoma has long been synonymous with Bingo. That is because the Native tribes of Oklahoma have operated Bingo games for years. Guests from each of the neighboring states pile in vans and head over to Oklahoma to bet on Bingo for the weekends.

The 1988 Indian Gaming Regulatory Act became law after a precedent setting decision by The U.S. Supreme Court just the year prior. From that time, twenty three of the thirty nine Amerindian tribes of Oklahoma have established gambling halls. The Chickasaw were the initial Oklahoma Native tribes to take advantage of the gambling rules, and at this time run 10 gambling dens of their own. Bingo was the game on which these casinos were built on. Electronic games like slot machine games weren’t permitted, because they are believed to contribute to gambling problems at a higher rate than bingo.

In the past few years, Oklahoma law have altered to allow for gigantic American Indian wagering casinos. You will now discover American Indian gambling halls with one armed bandits, video poker and chemin de fer tables. Craps and roulette are still not authorized in the American Indian gambling halls as of yet, although that is simply a matter of time. No one can say whether having other gambling hall games in the bingo houses will do for the appeal of bingo.
