Much has been written in the papers recently about the bingo industry being hurt because of the anti cigarette law in the United Kingdom. Things have grown so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested big tax breaks to assist in keeping the industry from going bankrupt. But can the online version of this quintessential game present a lifeline, or will it never compare to its land based peer?

Bingo has been an ancient game historically played by the "blue haired" generation. In any case the game recently had seen a recent comeback in acceptance with younger members of society opting to hit the bingo parlors instead of the bars on a Friday night. This is all about to be reversed with the enforcement of the anti smoking law throughout Britain.

Players will no longer be allowed to puff on cigarettes while marking numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 every public area will not be allowed to permit cigarettes in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most favored areas where folks like to puff on cigarettes.

The results of the anti cigarette law can already be observed in Scotland where smoking is already barred in the bingo halls. Profits have plummeted and the business is absolutely struggling for its life. But where did all the players go? Obviously they have not abandoned this established game?

The answer is on the net. Gamblers realise that they can play bingo using their computer at the same time enjoying a beer and smoke and still enjoy huge prizes. This is a recent phenomenon and has happened almost perfectly with the anti cigarette law.
