Bingo and Oklahoma: 2 birds of a feather
by Ayden on Sep.06, 2017, under Bingo
Oklahoma has long been analogous with Bingo. This is because the Indian tribes of Oklahoma have operated Bingo sessions for many years. Clients from all of the neighboring states load up in passenger cars and travel to Oklahoma to play Bingo for the weekends.
The 1988 Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA) became law after a benchmark ruling by The U.S. Supreme Court the year prior. From that time, 23 of the thirty nine Native bands of Oklahoma have introduced bingo halls. The Chickasaw were the initial Oklahoma American Indian tribes to take advantage of the gaming laws, and today run 10 gambling dens of their own. Bingo is the game on which the above-mentioned gambling halls were built on. Electronic games like slots were not allowed, since they are believed to lead to gambling problems at a higher rate than bingo.
In the past few years, Oklahoma governing edicts has changed to allow for large Amerindian wagering casinos. You will now see Indian gambling dens with slots, video poker and 21 tables. Craps and roulette are not yet authorized in the Native casinos yet, although this is only a matter of time. No one can authority whether having other casino games in the bingo parlors will do for the appeal of bingo.
