Much has been reported in the press not long ago regarding the bingo industry singing the blues because of the anti cigarette law in Britain. Things have grown so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested massive aid to assist in keeping the businesses afloat. However will the net variation of this quintessential game present a salvation, or will it not compare to its land based relative?

Bingo is an enduring game normally played by the "blue rinse" generation. For all that the game lately had witnessed a recent increase in appeal with younger members of society deciding to hit the bingo halls rather than the clubs on a Friday night. All this is about to change with the enforcement of the anti cigarette law all over England and Wales.

No more will gamblers be able to smoke while marking numbers. Beginning in the summer of ‘07 all public places will no longer be permitted to allow smoking in their locations and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most popular locations where people enjoy smoking.

The results of the cigarette ban can already be seen in Scotland where cigarettes are already not permitted in the bingo parlors. Players have plunged and the industry is literally struggling for its life. But where have all the players gone? Of course they have not abandoned this ancient game?

The answer is online. Gamblers realise that they can gamble on bingo in front of their computer at the same time enjoying a beverage and cig and still enjoy massive cash rewards. This is a recent anomaly and has timed itself just about perfectly with the ban on smoking.

Of course gambling on on the internet is unlikely to replace the social portion of heading down to the bingo parlour, but for a group of players the law has left a lot of bingo players with little choice.
