Might the Anti Smoking Law in Britain Force Bingo Enthusiasts Online?

A lot has been stated in the press just a while ago regarding the bingo industry singing the blues because of the anti cigarette law in the United Kingdom. Things have become so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for big aid to help keep the industry from going bankrupt. But will the online variation of this traditional game offer a salvation, or might it never compare to its bricks and mortar opposite?
Bingo is an ancient game historically played by the "blue haired" generation. In any case the game recently had experienced a recent increase in acceptance with younger members of society opting to visit the bingo halls rather than the bars on a Friday night. All this is about to be reversed with the introduction of the smoking ban around United Kingdom.
No longer will gamblers be permitted to smoke whilst marking off their numbers. Starting in the summer of 2007 every public place will not be permitted to allow cigarettes in their venues and this includes Bingo halls, one of the most common places where folks enjoy smoking.
The outcome of the anti cigarette law can already be felt in Scotland where smoking is already banned in the bingo halls. Profits have plummeted and the industry is absolutely fighting for to stay alive. But where have the players gone? Certainly they haven’t abandoned this ancient game?
The answer is online. Players realise that they can play bingo in front of their computer while enjoying a beverage and cigarette and in the end, enjoy big jackpots. This is a recent anomaly and has timed itself almost perfectly with the anti smoking law.
Of course gambling on on the net is unlikely to replace the collective part of going over to the bingo parlor, but for a demographic of people the law has left a lot of bingo enthusiasts with little alternative.
