Could the Cigarette Ban in the UK Force Bingo Players On to the Internet?

A lot has been talked in the press just a while ago concerning the bingo industry being hurt as a result of the smoking ban in Britain. Things have grown so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for big aid to help keep the industry from going bankrupt. But can the web version of this classic game provide a escape, or will it in no way compare to its real life kin?
Bingo is an established game usually played by the "blue haired" generation. However the game of late had witnessed a recent return in acceptance with younger men and women opting to go to the bingo parlours in place of the bars on a Friday night. All this is about to be destroyed with the introduction of the anti cigarette law throughout England and Wales.
Players will no longer be allowed to smoke at the same time dabbing numbers. Beginning in the summer of ‘07 all public locations will not be permitted to allow cigarettes in their venues and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most favored areas where people enjoy smoking.
The results of the anti smoking law can already be seen in Scotland where cigarettes are already not permitted in the bingo parlours. Players have plunged and the business is absolutely fighting for to stay alive. But where have the players gone? Certainly they haven’t cast aside this age old game?
The answer is online. People know that they can participate in bingo from their computer while enjoying a drink and fag and in the end, enjoy massive prizes. This is a recent phenomenon and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the anti smoking law.
Of course wagering on on the internet can never replace the social portion of heading down to the bingo hall, but for a demographic of players the law has left many bingo players with no alternative.
