Much has been stated in the press recently regarding the bingo industry being hurt because of the smoking ban in Britain. Conditions have become so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for huge aid to help keep the industry from going bankrupt. But does the online adaptation of this quintessential game present a lifeline, or might it not compare to its bricks and mortar opposite?

Bingo has been an familiar game usually enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. For all that the game recently had witnessed a recent return in popularity with younger people deciding to go to the bingo halls instead of the discos on a weekend. All this is about to be reversed with the enforcement of the anti smoking law around Britain.

No more will players be able to smoke whilst marking numbers. From the summer of ‘07 every public area will no longer be permitted to allow smoking in their buildings and this includes Bingo halls, which are possibly the most favored locations where people like to puff on cigarettes.

The results of the smoking ban can already be observed in Scotland where cigarettes are already banned in the bingo parlours. Players have plunged and the industry is beyond a doubt fighting for its life. But where have all the players gone? Obviously they have not forgotten this ancient game?

The answer is on the internet. Gamblers know that they can play bingo from their computer while enjoying a beer and cigarette and still enjoy monstrous jackpots. This is a recent phenomenon and has happened bordering on perfect with the ban on smoking.
